Holy Spirit: Work of the Holy Spirit Concerning the Apostles and the Church

Jn. 14:16-17


Jesus promised to pray the Father and send the Helper (the Comforter, the Holy Spirit).


Lk. 24:49; Acts 1:5, 8; 2:1-4


Baptism of the Holy Spirit with power was promised to the apostles and came on the Day of Pentecost.


Acts 5:32; 1 Jn. 5:6-8


The Spirit was a witness (Jn. 15:26-27).


1 Cor. 2:7-16


The Spirit searched all things of God and revealed the mind of Christ to the apostles (cf. 1 Cor. 2:10-13; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:19-21).


1 Pet. 1:12; 1 Th. 1:5


The apostles preached the gospel by the Holy Spirit (cf. 1 Cor. 2:10-13; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:19-21). The power of the Holy Spirit worked miracles through the apostles confirming that they were speaking the word of God.


Jn. 14:15-18, 26; 16:12-13

The Spirit was given to the apostles in order to guide them into all truth, teaching them and bring all things to their remembrance.

God's word is called the word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15).


Jn. 16:13


The Spirit declared things to come (e.g., the apostasy, persecutions, the second coming of Christ, the resurrection of the dead).


Jn. 16:8-11


The Spirit convicted the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement through the spoken and written word.


Jn. 15:26-27


The Spirit testified and bore witness of Christ.


Acts 16:7-10


The Spirit guided the apostles through providence and visions.
