This is a universal axiom set in order by God: We reap what we
sow.
Paul said: "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever
a man sows, that he will reap. For he who sows to his flesh will
of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will
of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while
doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart"
(Gal. 6:7-9).
I live on a farm and it is evident that a farmer reaps what he
sows. If he sows peanuts, he reaps peanuts; if he sows cotton, he
reaps cotton. And year after year the same type of pecan grows from
each pecan tree in the grove; and the same type of grape grows from
each grape vine. A farmer reaps what he sows.
Last year we planted a garden. Corn grew in the place that we panted
corn; cucumbers grew in the place that we planted cucumbers; and
tomatoes grew in the place where we planted tomatoes. We reaped
what we sowed.
Sowing is not limited to planting seeds but also includes caring
for the seed until harvest time. If we had not watered or hoed our
garden last year, the seed would have died. We would have reaped
corruption and not food.
Life is like a garden. We reap what we sow. Solomon said: "He who
sows iniquity will reap sorrow, and the rod of his anger will fail"
(Pr. 22:8). Eliphaz falsely accused Job of sin but stated a truism:
"Those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same" (Job 4:8).
If you are sowing iniquity and trouble in your garden you will
eventually receive back what you had sown, iniquity and trouble.
A popular saying expressing this truism is: What goes around comes
around. This is another way of saying: You reap what you sow.
Envision your life as a garden. What are you sowing in your garden?
How are you caring for what you have sown? What are you reaping?
Are you reaping some things that you do not want to reap? To change
what we reap we must hoe up the old seed and sow new seed.
Are you sowing to the flesh or to the Spirit? What will you reap
at the end of this life - corruption or everlasting life (Gal. 6:8)?
Remember, God is not mocked. Whatever a man sows, that he shall
also reap (Gal. 6:7).
