Lead Me To Some Soul Today
Bible study on evangelism.

Like God, we want everyone to be saved.

  • "This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Tim. 2:3-4).
  • "The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance" (2 Pet. 3:19).

In this article, I want to take a familiar hymn, Lead Me To Some Soul Today, and talk about leading other people to Christ through the gospel.

1) Lead me to some soul today;
O teach me, Lord, just what to say;
Friends of mine are lost in sin,
And cannot find their way.

2) Lead me to some way-ward soul,
To one who's wandered from the fold;
Help me turn him unto Thee,
Thy blessings to behold.

3) Lead me from self-righteousness,
May Christ always be seen in me;
How can I do anything less,
Than lead more souls to Thee?

4) Open hearts of those I love,
To hear and heed the gospel call;
May they start to heav'n above,
And may they never fall.

C) Few there are who seem to care,
And few there are who pray;
Melt my heart and fill my life;
Give me one soul today.

Stay Motivated
Living in a sinful world, it's hard to stay motivated.

As expressed in the chorus of this hymn, few people care or even pray. So it's easy for us to stop trying to reach the lost because of rejection.

But as God's children we must stay focused, and realize the importance of our job.

Like Paul, we know the fear of the Lord and do everything possible to persuade men, deeply concerned about people who can't find their way (2 Cor. 5:11).

Like another familiar hymn, The World's Bible, says:

1) Christ has no hands but our hands to do His work today,
He has no feet but our feet to lead men in His way;
He has no tongue but our tongues to tell men how He died,
He has no help but our help to bring them to His side.

2) We are the only Bible the careless world will read,
We are the sinner's gospel, we are the scoffers' creed;
We are the Lord's last message given in deed and word,
What if the type is crooked? What if the print is blurred?

A big part of our work is to stay motivated and keep our focus, so we're busy in God's kingdom, bringing lost souls to Him.

Pray For Ourselves
We can help ourselves stay motivated, and succeed as God's workers, by praying.

James teaches us the effectiveness of prayer within the context of evangelism, and saving lost souls.

  • "Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much" (Jas. 5:16).
  • "My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins" (Jas. 5:19-20).

We should pray for God to help us in every aspect of evangelism.

And as indicated in Lead Me To Some Soul Today, we can ask God to:

  • Lead us to a lost soul, an unbeliever.
  • Lead us to a way-ward soul, a Christian who turned from the truth.
  • Teach us what to say.
  • Help us turn them back to God.

Pray For The Lost
Not only should we pray for ourselves, but also for the lost (1 Tim. 2:1-4). We can pray for the condition of their hearts, that they hear the gospel and take heed.

We can pray for their salvation, based on obedience to God's word, and for their faithfulness after rendering obedience to the gospel. We can pray that God's word is available to all men. And we can pray for those who teach them.

Be Righteous
Before we can reach people with the gospel, we must be righteous.

If we're not, God won't listen to our prayers, and our example of life won't teach the lessons sorely needed by the world (1 Pet. 3:12; Phil. 3:17).

The songs we're considering in this article also remind us of the importance of our lives. We have to show people how to get to heaven, before we can tell them!

Lead Me To Some Soul Today:

Lead me from self-righteousness,
May Christ always be seen in me;
How can I do anything less,
Than lead more souls to Thee?

The World's Bible:

What if our hands are busy with other things than His?
What if our feet are walking where sin's allurement is?
What if our tongues are speaking of things His life would spurn,
How can we hope to help Him and welcome His return?

Are you leading souls to the Lord, and to heaven?

Do your prayers, and the example of your life, reflect your efforts to win souls for Christ?
